Charlotte now is the proud owner of her very own driver’s license.

Charlotte's first day with a driver's license
The next challenge is learning to drive a standard.

I need to teach Dixie to drive a standard as well. Do you or Janet teach lessons?

I had her driving circles in the church parking lot, but she didn’t get out of first gear. Starting is the hardest part, I suppose, so I should get her on the highway to shift up a little higher…

Lisa – I was going to make the standard warning about being careful now that Charlotte is driving, but I practiced restraint.

Marc – At one time Janet considered a career in teaching driving lessons. The above picture was taken in the Peavey Mart parking lot (I’d expected Canadian Tire to be closed but they were still open). We did circles until we were dizzy. She’d already come a long way – the starts are getting smoother and she’s getting the idea of watching the revs both upshifting and downshifting. However she hasn’t been higher than second gear. A couple more parking lot sessions and then it’ll be a quiet country road before we venture onto the city streets.

my Dad took me to the Exhibition grounds when I learned standard. Lots of wide open spaces and only a few light posts to hit. Good times.

Way to go Charlotte. Now I won’t have to have Thomas drive up from home to pick you up at the church and drive you to your home!!!
